5 Health Benefits Of Eating Carrot

The carrot (Daucus carota subsp. sativus) is a root vegetable, usually orange in colour, though purple, black, red, white, and yellow varieties exist. It has a crisp texture when fresh. The most commonly eaten part of a carrot is the root, although the greens are sometimes eaten as well and it is known to contain some essential nutrients.

For the benefit of those who avoid carrot, because it’s hard, here are 5 health benefits you are missing by avoiding carrots.

1 - Cancer

A variety of dietary carrot have been shown to have anti-cancer effects due to their antioxidant power in reducing free radicals in the body.

2 - Leukemia

Carrot juice extract was shown to kill leukemia cells and inhibit their progression

3 - Prostate Cancer

Among younger men, diets rich in beta-carotene which is contained in carrots may play a protective role against prostate cancer.

4 - Vision

A deficiency that causes the outer segments of the eye’s photo receptors to deteriorate, damaging normal vision. Correcting vitamin A deficiencies with foods high in beta-carotene will restore vision.

5 - Anti aging agent

The antioxidants and phytochemicals in carrots may also help with blood sugar regulation, delay the effects of aging, and improve immune function.

We Didn’t Impose Players On You – NFF Replies Oliseh

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has debunked allegations of imposition of players credited to erstwhile Super Eagles Head Coach, Sunday Oliseh.

The Chairman of the NFF Technical and Development Committee, Barrister Chris Green, said Oliseh’s case was faulty and he should move on.

Speaking to thenff.com, he said: “I can vouch for Felix Anyansi-Agwu, who was chairman of the committee before me, that he is not that type of person. I was made chairman on January 16 and traveled to Rwanda on January 17, when the team for the CHAN had been composed. The Super Eagles have not played any match since CHAN. So, when did we have time to try and impose players on him?

“We are not in anyway moved by his vituperations. He claims we did not provide him information with regards to Egypt, but how come we have been able to provide Siasia with the same? He should respect himself and move on.”

“We welcomed Oliseh with so much warmth and so much regard for his person. It is sad that he has failed to reciprocate, even at departure. He is simply full of too much talk.

RUSSELL WILSON’S EX-WIFE SHADES CIARA’S ENGAGEMENT RING – READ WHAT SHE POSTED

After Russell Wilson proposed to Ciara, his ex- wife, Ashton Wilson nee Meem, apparently threw some shade Ciara’s way when she found out about the engagement.

His ex, 27 year old Ashton Wilson changed her Twitter profile picture to an old photo of herself wearing the diamond engagement ring  that Russell Wilson gave to her.

Ciara’s huge engagement  ring is a 5 carat diamond stunner, while the one Russell gave Ashton in 2012 was an 8-carat rock, according to the blog Media Take Out.

Even though Ashton Wilson’s ring is bigger, Ciara’s has better quality according to higher end jelewer, David Harris, when he interviewed with Hollywood Life. He said:

“This is one incredible ring,”.“This brilliant cut solitaire is approximately 12 to 15 carats and looks to be a D through F colorless diamond, which means it’s a really good diamond.  I would estimate the center stone be worth between $2 and $2.5 million based on one which I recently sold to a very wealthy client.”

Russell Wilson and Ashton divorced in 2014 after two years of marriage. Rumors claim she had an affair with the then-Sea Hawks wide receiver Golden Tate.

Tiwa Savage Breaks Down In Tears At Orphanage Home

Mavin Records first lady, Tiwa Savage gets emotional as she visits an Ophanage home in Glenvista, South Africa on Tuesday, March 15, 2016.

The singer took to her social media page to share a couple of photos and share her experience with fans.

According to Tiwa;

“Today I visited an orphanage in Glenvista SA called “Door Of Hope” I think it is very important to try and sew a seed when I travel. I heard about this orphanage and how it started and I decided I had to go and do my little part to help.

“I don’t even know when I started crying uncontrollably. These babies are so so so beautiful, I can’t imagine how much hardship and pain these mothers must have gone through to make such a difficult decision. I also thought of where these little ones would end up if no one adopts them.

We live in a harsh world and we judge people sometimes not knowing what their background is or what they’ve had to endure. I feel in love with their little souls, just watched some of them sleeping with their little hearts beating. God help us all create a better world for the little innocent ones.”

Power distribution firms reject supply from generating plants

The rejection of load allocations from power generating plants by some electricity distribution companies is one of the factors preventing the country from fully benefitting from the 6,500 megawatts generation capacity of the existing power plants.

Our correspondent gathered that some power plant units were being shut due to high frequency occasioned by the inability of the distribution companies to pick their load allocations.

For instance, the nation lost about 2,821.5MW of electricity generation on Monday partly due to the rejection of loads by the Discos, it was exclusively gathered from top industry sources.

The nation’s electricity generation as of 6.00am on Monday stood at 3,548.7MW, while the combined generation capacity of the power plants was put at 6,370.2MW.

Some of the plants affected by the load rejection or low load demand were Shiroro, Jebba, Egbin, Okpai and Afam VI.

Others are plants under the National Integrated Power Project, including Alaoji, Odukpani and Ihovbor.

Shiroro and Jebba saw their generation levels reduce to 200MW and 260MW, compared to capacities of 300MW and 341MW, respectively. Odukpani generated 60.1MW instead of its capacity of 360MW; Egbin, 820MW (880MW); Alaoji, 51.5MW (117MW); Ihovbor, 78.4Mw (109MW); Okpai, 282MW (366MW); and Afam VI, 378MW (555MW).

The General Secretary, National Union of Electricity Employees, Mr. Joe Ajaero, had claimed in a statement on Monday that the real saboteurs of the power sector were those who refused allocations from the national grid for onward distribution to consumers.

A former top executive in one of the power firms explained to our correspondent that a distribution company could decide to reject load due to low revenue generation from a segment of its customer base.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Eko Electricity Distribution Company, Mr. Oladele Amoda, told our correspondent in a telephone interview that load rejection could be as a result of capacity issues between the transmission and distribution networks.

He said, “In some cases, there is no enough transmission equipment capacity to wheel power to the Discos. Sometimes, the Discos also do have issues; that is when there is powerful wind, which, sometimes, leads to tripping of the breaker. But it doesn’t take time before that is restored.

“Everybody knows that the weakest link in the power value chain is transmission. So, the blame cannot be put solely on the Discos.”

According to Amoda, the nation’s transmission network cannot wheel more than 6,000MW, while the distribution networks nationwide can take more than 10,000MW.

“At Eko Disco, we are not rejecting load. We are not even getting up to our allocated percentage because of constraints on the transmission equipment,” he said, adding that the company had spent more than N11bn on network rehabilitation and reinforcement, among others.

Amoda said the government was working on improving the transmission capacity, noting that the Transmission Company of Nigeria had been starved of funds for a very long time.

“The government is looking into how to quickly strengthen it financially and with all the provisions that it will require to quickly ramp up its capacity,” he stated.

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc, Mr. Rumundaka Wonodi, said, “When the Discos reject load allocation, the question is why are they rejecting it? It could be that their system is weak, which is why we keep talking about the need for investment.

“When this (load rejection) happens, it has an effect all through the value chain because generation companies cannot generate power and maybe they have ‘take or pay’ obligation on their gas supply; so, they have to pay for gas that they did not utilise at that time.”

The Chairman, Egbin Power Plc, Mr. Kola Adesina, said the talk that the Discos were rejecting allocation was an indication that there was a major problem far more significant than frequency and pressure of gas.

“There is no justification for somebody to reject power. You need power to make money. You need money to be able to pay your loan, to be able to continue to service the system. So, nobody will naturally want to do that,” he said.

The spokesperson for the Kano Electricity Distribution Company, Mr. Muhammed Kandi, said, “In Kano Disco, we do not drop load. In fact, we don’t get enough allocation; so why should we even drop load in the first place?”

He explained that the company only received about 260MW on Tuesday morning, compared to a maximum energy demand of 600MW.

The Acting Chief Executive Officer, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, Mr. Anthony Akah, said, “Clearly, the issue of load rejection has been addressed by the commission. Under the new regime, that is the Transitional Electricity Market, the distribution companies can no longer reject load that is within the allocation level that they are supposed to get.

“If it is due to the constraint of the distribution companies, they will be penalised for that. If it is the transmission company, it will also have to be penalised. That essentially has been taken care of, unless there are other reasons behind why it happened.”

The Chief Executive Officer, Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors, Mr. Azu Obiaya, said, “It is irrational that anyone of these Discos will reject load right now because they desperately need the power to, first of all, meet their revenue requirements as well as distribute to their customers.”

Candidates, parents protest, demand cancellation of 2016 UTME

Hundreds of admission seekers to the nation’s tertiary institutions and their parents on Tuesday stormed the Lagos State Governor’s Office in Alausa, Ikeja, and the state Assembly complex to protest against alleged manipulation of the 2016 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.

The protesters demanded the cancellation of the exams and the removal of the Registrar of the Joint Admissions Matriculation Board, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde.

The protesters, who faulted the conduct of the examination, described the exercise as a “big sham.”

The examination, conducted by JAMB, they alleged, was fraught with irregularities.

The examination, which started on February 27, will end on March 19.

While some of the candidates alleged that the board deliberately lowered their scores, some claimed that it arbitrarily awarded marks to many candidates.

The protesters, led by a group under the aegis of Concerned Parents and Education Stakeholders, displayed placards with inscriptions such as,  ‘All we are saying give us our mark’, ‘Dibu must go; the only stumbling block in education progress’, ‘The Joint Admission and Manipulation Board, give us our real results’, and ‘The professor of test and management has outlived his usefulness’, among others.

The protesters, who occupied the gate of the Lagos State House of Assembly complex for many hours, said JAMB and its registrar had “lost focus on how to conduct a successful Computer-Based Test in the 21st century.

A candidate, Maryam Animashaun, who expressed disappointment with the conduct of the examination, claimed that she received three different results from JAMB.

Animashaun, who sat for the examination at the College of Education, Oro, Kwara State, said, “I am confused. I do not know what to do now. The first alert I received on the telephone from the board with regard to the examination showed that I scored 218. The second alert read 186, while the third one read 286.

“The surprising thing now is that I cannot print any of the results. On the website, the board claimed that I did not sit for the examination. Meanwhile, I sat for English, Government, Economics and Literature-in-English.”

Another candidate, Kalasuwe Adeola, who claimed she scored 220, said she obtained the same score in 2015.

She  said, “I am sure JAMB did not mark this year’s UTME. If it did, why did they issue me the same result I obtained last year? In my printed result for this year, it was written 2015/2016 instead of 2016/2017. I sat for this year’s examination at the Bachel Model College, Lagos, on March 9. Unlike other candidates, I did not have any issue with my system during the examination.”

The National President of the Association of Tutorial Schools in Nigeria, Mr. Shodunke Olutodotun, lamented that over 10,000 candidates missed the UTME, while others had their marks deducted due to irregularities by JAMB.

“This year’s UTME will soon be concluded. We have a man called Prof. Dibu Ojerinde. This man has outlived his usefulness in JAMB. He seems to be more powerful than the country’s president.

“The protesters are the victims; their destinies are being finished by Dibu. Most of the protesters that had their exam in Delta State had the exam in a shrine. A lot of them got results before they sat for the exam.

“We are appealing to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and the Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, to send signal to Abuja to stop UTME. If they don’t do that, we will go to Abuja.

“How will someone sit for Physics, Chemistry, Biology and the next thing he sees are Economics, Commerce and Government?”

Describing the exam as a fraud, a parent, Mr. Bunmi Elujula, urged the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, to look into the complaints of the candidates urgently.

Apart from awarding arbitrary scores to candidates, Elujula said many candidates had problems with their systems.

He said, “Many candidates were allocated between 40 and 60 additional marks. What are the criteria for this arbitrariness? The strange thing is that JAMB started the CBT two years ago, why is this year’s exam a big flop? I have not seen candidates and parents complain this way about the exam in the past. I plead with the authorities to look into their grievances.”

But JAMB described the organisers of the protest as “blackmailers”.

In a statement by its Head of Public Relations, Dr Fabian Benajmin, the board said some proprietors, whose examination centres did not receive accreditation for the test, were behind the protest.

The statement read in part, “The board had approved centres provided by these individuals to be used for the 2016 exercise. Unfortunately, it could not approve those centres lacking in all the indices needed for a successful CBT.

“These same proprietors turned around to organise candidates to protest against our activities. We are not perfect as an organisation, but we are working hard to ensure that Nigerian education is better than it is. We have taken the risk to do the unthinkable so as to change the paradigm.

“We will continue to call on Nigerians to give us the benefits of doubt and with their collective support; we will give them one of the best CBT globally. It is no news that the worst CBT is far better than the best Paper and Pencil Test. At least, the era of candidates pouring acid on JAMB officials, bolting with question papers into the bush and all unthinkable embarrassing acts are gone.”

Herbalist, 69, marries 18-year-old girl as 57th wife in Enugu

Meet the 69 year old herbalist, Chief Simon Odo, who married an 18 year old girl, Chidinma, as his 57th wife last November and now says he won’t marry again.

Chidinma was married from Okutu, in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State.

Odo, also known variously as Onuwa, King Solomon of Africa or King of Satan was married to 68 women but some of them had earlier died. Augustina Odo (nee Asogwa) and Virginia, nee Mogbo from Oraifite were among the dead ones.

Odo spoke in an interview with the South East Voice at his palatial home at Aji, Enugu Ezike in Igboeze North Local Government Area of Enugu State.

Onuwa who was armed with an Onward note book where names of his wives and over 200 children were listed according to their dates of birth said that his first son, Emeka was born on December 15, 1969.

“I was born in 1947 on the day they had an eclipse of the sun and the moon. There was darkness in the afternoon on the day I was born. I was the only son of my parents. “I was baptised as a Christian in the Catholic Church and I even became a mass servant under Rev Father Desmond McGlade.

I however became a herbalist because of circumstances beyond my control. As I said, I was the only son of my parents but because some of his relations wanted to take over his landed property, they poisoned me. I contracted tuberculosis and had to be treated for years.

At a point, I was even unable to walk for about five years because I became lame. I ran to Ondo State in the South West, where I trained to become a herbalist at the age of 15, before returning to the village.

I married 15 wives when my father was alive and the situation prolonged his life. He died in 1992 at the ripe old age of over 90 years. My first son has seven children and four grandchildren. Any of my children who chooses to become a Christian is free to do so, provided he/she must become a Catholic. I don’t like the Pentecostal churches.”

On feeding of his large family, Onuwa said,

“People think that I feed many of them but this is not true. Most of my children are grown up. The boys among them usually marry and go to their own houses just like the girls who marry and follow their husbands to their places.

However, my wives cook food for the whole family in turns. For example, if it is the turn of Ada or Omada to cook, she would invite five of her colleagues to assist her in cooking. One woman cooks for everybody in the house at a time but my other wives would always assist such a person.”

Asked if any of his sons has taken after him as a herbalist, he said,

“I will not encourage them to do so. I don’t want my sons to take after me because some of them will do bad things with my medicine. As a herbalist, I have never killed anybody or thought of evil against anybody but I do not trust that my children would be upright like me. That is why I will not encourage them to inherit my medicine but I may bequeath them to some of my younger children, not the old, greedy ones.”

Meanwhile, it was learnt that although Onuwa abhorred seeing his children attend churches other than the Catholic church, seven of them were ordained pastors at the Lord’s Chosen Church. Hitherto, some of them attended Catholic and Anglican churches while many of them took after their father in his business.

However, the ordination of the pastors brought about a radical Christian awakening in the extra-large family of Chief Odo. In the past four years, there had been a simmering misunderstanding between the pastors and their father regarding his herbal practice. The pastors were said to be mounting heavy pressure on him to repent and turn to Jesus, a demand the herbalist spurned.

Odo, said to have lost one of his wives last February, had arranged for the burial programme, which his pastor’s sons rejected and rather organized a prayer programme for her burial, triggering confusion in the family, Vanguard reports.

CBN INTRODUCES NEW MONTHLY CHARGE ON ATM CARDS

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has proposed a N100 monthly charge on every ATM card nationwide – The new charge is different from the existing N65 charge – The apex bank is also proposing a N50 charge on every cheque leaflet obtained and used at the deposit money bank’s counter.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has proposed a N100 monthly charge on every debit card (ATM card) in the country.

The new charge is separate from the existing N65 charge after the third withdrawal within the same month.

A monthly maintenance fee of N100 was also proposed every month for a naira dominated debit card when used, and a N50 charge for other months when the card is used or not.

In its draft on the “guide to charges for banks and other financial institutions in Nigeria”, CBN has also proposed a N4,200-per-annum charge on foreign currency denominated cards as maintenance fee.

The apex bank has also proposed a N50 charge on every cheque leaflet obtained and used at the deposit money bank’s counter, The Cable reports.

This is not the same as the collection charge on cheques, which is also proposed to be “one percent of cheque value or Naira equivalent of US $10 whichever is lower”.

The circular, signed by Kevin Amugo, director financial policy and regulation department, stated:

“The Central Bank of Nigeria is currently reviewing the extant Guide to Bank Charges, which came into effect on April 1, 2013,”

“The review, which is in line with the philosophy of periodically ensuring that the provisions of the guide accord with current realities, also seek to address complaints from customers of financial services, requests for clarification on provision of the guide and absence of a tariff regime for other financial institutions in Nigeria.

“Kindly send hard copies of your comments by March 29, 2016 to the director, financial policy and regulation department with soft copies mailed to gbcreview@cbn.gov.ng.”

The new charge is coming days after Nigerians protested excessive bank charges, declaring a ‘No Banking Day’ on Tuesday, March 1.

Buhari Vows to be merciless in pursuing looters

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday vowed that his administration would not show mercy to any person in its ongoing anti-corruption war.

He said his administration would pursue the anti-graft war relentlessly until Nigerians began to see how the nation’s elite conspired to run the country down.

According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, the President spoke during an interactive session he had in Malabo with Nigerians resident in Equatorial Guinea.

Buhari assured the Nigerians that he would not entertain any fear in his quest to rid the nation of corruption by bringing those who compromised their positions to book.

“We will be merciless and relentless in pursuing all those who abused public trust. Nigerians will see how some of the elite conspired to run the nation down,” the President said.

He also condemned recent political violence in Rivers State, saying the killing of people over political differences was primitive, barbaric and unacceptable.

He promised to deal decisively with those responsible for the development.

“We will deal decisively with all sponsors of violence. I have given the security services clear directives in this regard.

“We will show that violence in any form will no longer be tolerated before, during or after elections,” he stated.

Buhari promised that the Independent National Electoral Commission would be encouraged to explore the possibility of Nigerians abroad participating in the 2019 general elections by casting their votes wherever they might reside.

He noted that some African countries had started allowing their citizens, resident abroad, to vote in national elections and Nigeria could not afford not to join them.

He identified with the desire of Nigerians in the Diaspora to vote in national elections, pledging that he would do all within his powers to fulfil that desire.

“I want all Nigerians to know that I respect them and their right to choose their leaders,” he said.

The President disclosed that establishing a new national airline was not currently on the Federal Government’s list of priorities.

He said his administration’s main area of focus was reducing the level of poverty.

Buhari said developing the infrastructure needed to boost production in all sectors of the economy and creating more jobs for young Nigerians, as well as other actions that would directly enhance the living conditions of ordinary Nigerians would continue to be prioritised by his administration.

He was responding to complaints by members of the Nigerian community about the absence of direct flights between Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea

10 Major Relationship Mistakes Men Better Stop Making

The old adage that “men are from Mars and women are from Venus” holds truth to it in the sense that men and women think very differently. This can oftentimes lead to tension and conflict in a relationship. If men and women could work to understand each other better, relationships could go more smoothly. Here are ten serious relationship mistakes that men should stop making.

1. You lied to her.

Breaking trust with a woman will rock the foundation of your relationship.

2. You are too mushy.

It is great to act as a support system in a relationship, but women do not want to be the rock and constantly need to provide guidance and comfort. Women want a man who has courage and solid ground, not one who is unstable and emotional. Bravery and practicality are great for relationships.

3. Not listening.

Failing to be attentive will not help strengthen a relationship. Nodding and smiling to everything she says will not make her feel like she is empowered, it will likely make her feel like you do not care.

4. Being a pushover.

When one partner takes complete control of a relationship, it is no longer a partnership. Women dislike men who fail to take initiative and turn to others to make their decisions. Women do not want to have to lead their partner through life. The power in any relationship should be equal.

5. You’re jealous and handle it incorrectly.

If you are jealous of something in or outside of the relationship, talk about it and be open about your feelings. It is not right to search through women’s phone history or make a big deal out of something that is nothing. Do not snoop through personal items just to assume the worst. Jealousy comes from insecurity, which is never good for a relationship.

6. You speak negatively about her friends.

Speaking negatively about the people a woman loves is not a great ticket to her heart. She has chosen these people to be in her life, and in order for you to be in her life as well, you need to mix with them. If you present her with a choice between you or her friends, she will likely choose her life-long friends.

7. You are smothering her.

Women love spending time with their significant other, but it is important to also nourish satellite relationships. Leave a woman to have individual time with other people she loves without having to always be there. Let her be an individual without always contacting her or having to be right next to her.

8. Not appreciating her.

This is a huge mistake that is commonly made by men. When a woman spends her life taking care of things at a full time job, and then comes home to a full time job as well, it is important to appreciate that hard work. Taking care of a household is a lot of work and should not be taken for granted.

9. Being self-absorbed.

Men can be self-absorbed without even realizing it is happening. They are the center of their own worlds and expect their partners to be as well. They may expect their wives or girlfriends to treat them as their mother did and take care of their needs. It is important to remember that an adult relationship should be equal and it is very different from a child/parent relationship. Self absorbed men tend to consider their partner’s feelings to be trivial, and their problems to be small, no matter how big they actually are.

10. Being complacent.

Having strong ambitions is a very attractive quality in a man. Women look towards the future, and like to see growth and success rather than a stagnant road. Women want their partners to be motivated and goal-oriented, leading to a pleasant future.

AY Comedian Pens Open Letter To Nigerains on behalf of MD of Lekki Gardens

AY comedian was once Lekki Garden’s ambassador, He took his time to pen an open letter to Nigerians on behalf of MD of Lekki Gardens; Read below:

“The Collapse of the Lekki Garden building is indeed an unforeseen tragedy that still hits me all the way to my soul. My deepest sympathy and condolences to those people who have died, been hurt and people who lost their love ones.

As a one-time ambassador to Lekki Gardens, it will be difficult to disengage myself from the company whose vision was designed to help every common man to becoming landlords in Nigeria. In times like this we are one family. Let us standup and pray for all the families who have suffered and wish them peace in knowing that their loved ones may have gone on ahead of them to be with God Almighty.

I know there is nothing I can say to ease anyone’s sorrow, but this is just to let these families know that my thoughts are with them. As we sympathize with the families of the bereaved, let me clearly state that every human life is of inevitable value.

No sentiment or general conviction would justify the sacrifice of human life. For this reason I have maintained a position of silence because of my affiliations with Lekki Gardens. The care of human life and property is one of the core responsibilities of a good government.

Hence I will also not blame the government and their ‘quick response’ actions against the management of Lekki Gardens. Finally, I do know that the social Media is now for the good, the bad and the ugly.

It is even more of an open battlefield, where abuses fly from one to another, destroying lives, self-esteem and individual self-worth. As much as I still believe in the vision of Mr Richard Nyong’s Lekki Garden Real Estate project that has delivered over 6,000 homes to Nigerians, I want to hold hands with the Lekki Gardens family and grow stronger during this time of despair, and pray for a man whom has become a victim of circumstance.

A man who truly cares for others. A man who has helped a lot of people within and outside his community. A man who single handedly handled the constructions and repairs of Government roads within Lekki.

A creator of employment to thousands. This is not to position him above the law, it is a beacon for fairness within due process, peace and justice. #letsbefair “.

Fed Govt inaugurates $1m investment, technology partnership with UNIDO

In collaboration with the United Nations International Developemnt Organisation (UNIDO), the Federal Government yesterday launched the first N300million Investment and Technology Promotion Office (ITPO) in Nigeria.

The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Okechukwu Enelamah who described the development as timely, said the move would accelerate the industrial revolution mantra of President Muhammadu Buhari administration while supporting the diversification of the economy.

Discussing the benefits of the ITPO to the country, he said it would attract technologically-based Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs) and Local Direct Investments (LDIs) into the country, adding that the African continent stood to benefit from the Office as its services would be extended to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) member states.

“Nigeria has all it takes to drive and sustain the activities of the Office  at home and abroad,” the minister said, adding that the country’s large market, natural resources, agricultural endowment and skilled labour would drive and sustain the activities of the ITPO.

He said the ITPO would collaborate with the relevant ministries department and agencies (MDAs) to enhance and drive efforts for attracting investment, acquiring and promoting access to technology, developing small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs) through capacity building and cluster development.

The Minister called for the establishment of a league between UNIDO ITPO Nigeria and existing ITPO networks in Italy, China, Baharain, Russia, Japan and South Korea.

The ITPO Coordinator at the Investment Promotion Division of UNIDO, Ms Lucia Cartini, said the choice of Nigeria as the host for the lead ITPO was a joint decision of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment and member states of UNIDO, adding that it was based on the consideration that Nigeria has enormous ability to drive and sustain the project.

“Nigeria was chosen not only because Nigeria is the largest economy in Africa, but also because there is abundant human and material resources to feed the sustainability needs of the ITPO,” she said, adding that the country offered excellent opportunities, especially in the non-oil sector of the economy.

According to her, the ITPO office will be cited in Lagos because the city is more economically active than Abuja.

Silly Excuses Ladies Often Give When They Are Caught Cheating

No excuse is acceptable for cheating on ones spouse. But unfortunately we find a lot of ladies making a case for themselves when caught in this immoral act. Here are some silly excuses ladies give when caught cheating on their boyfriends.

1. Because he is Very Lazy in Bed

Sometime I just laugh when ladies cheat and deem their promiscuous act right, saying their boyfriends’ laziness in bed actually led them to seek skillful guys who can do it better. The truth of the matter is that many of our ladies like s*x as much as men do, they only difference is that they pretentious and hypocritical about it. Have you ever wondered why your girlfriend is nagging unnecessarily without a cause? It might just be because you are fond of climaxing barely two minutes after

2. It was the work of the Devil

We all know that Nigeria is a country where people don’t take responsibility for their action or misfortunes, rather, they blame it on the devil who doesn’t even know their house address or phone number. When ladies are caught cheating, they will lie against the devil.

3. I Didn’t Know what came over Me

This reminds me of when my erstwhile friend caught his girlfriend cheating red-handed, she started crying profusely saying she did not know what got into her to have opened her legs for her gate man.

4. He Molested/Forced Me

I don’t need to explain this. We all know that an average Nigerian lady is quick to bail herself out with r*pe allegation the moment she’s caught cheating. Some of them will seduce you and coerce you into s*x and by the time they are caught they will lie that they were molested

5. Because he is also Cheating on Me

They say that two wrongs don’t make a right; and I am of the opinion that the fact that your boyfriend is cheating or unfaithful to you does not mean you should pay him back in his own coin. But since some girls have the tendencies to be unfaithful, they quickly utilize that opportunity to also cheat.

6. Because he is not Financially Capable to Provide My Needs

When I check the amount of money some ladies spend on their hair, manicure and pedicure, it’s almost enough to start a building project. However, when these ladies are dating men who do not have a good financial standing, they will definitely seek other men who will provide their basic needs, and by the time they are caught cheating they will say that a relationship without finance leads to cheating.

7. Because I was under the Influence of Alcohol

I just shake my head in disdain when ladies consciously bleep another dude but lie that a guy took advantage of them because they were under the influence of alcohol; therefore, they couldn’t resist him.

8. Because I can’t Keep all my eggs in a Basket

I don’t know when men became eggs that should not be put in a basket. Some ladies are in relationships yet they flirt a lot. You will hear them saying they can’t date only one man because they want to be on the safe side.

Peter Okoye Shows Off Replacement For His Brother

As at Monday morning, I was still wishing that Peter Okoye and his brothers – his twin Paul and elder bro Jude – could sort out their differences as a family but it appears that possibility is diminishing fast.

Now that Peter Okoye has officially left P-Square, unveiled his new stage name, “Mr P” and also the contact details of his new management. He has gone ahead to replace his brother Jude with a new manager by the name Olatunde Michaels.

Olatunde worked with Sundcity as Head of Channel in 2004. He was also media and event consultant for the D’banj-led DKM media as well as Station Manager, Trace TV Nigeria.

He has been a close friend of the Okoye brothers for a long time but now works for only Peter (Mr P).

The Monstrous-Looking Sea Creature Washes Up On Tourist Beach In Mexico.

monstrous-looking sea creature that experts are unable to identify has washed up on a tourist beach in Mexico. The strange 4-meter (13-foot-long) beast was found by beach-goers on Bonfil Beach, in the city of Acapulco, in the south-west Mexican...

We don’t need 36 state governors and their deputy- Sanusi calls for natioanal restructuring

Emir of Kano, Sanusi Muhammad II, has called for the restructuring of Nigerians system of governance, arguing that Nigeria cannot afford 36 state governors and deputy governors in the face of this economic hardship.

Sanusi said this while speaking at the inaugural lecture and launching of a N250 million endowment fund for the Oba Sikiru Adetona Professorial Chair in Governance, Department of Political Science, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, yesterday March 10th.

“If you really reflect on the problems of this country, it seems to turn common sense on its head. You sometimes wonder if anyone needs to tell any group of people that if you are a poor country, you do not need 36 governors, 36 deputy governors, with members of house of assembly, commissioners and advisers, Special assistants, a president, a vice president, 36 ministers, special advisers, federal legislature and so on.

Simple arithmetic will tell you that if you have that structure, you are first of all doomed to spending 80 or 90 per cent of everything you earn maintaining public officers.

It is really common sense, but it seems to be a problem for us to understand it,” he added.

50 Cent Calls It Quit On Instagram, Slams U.S. Courts

Rapper 50 Cent has announced that he will no longer be in charge of his Instagram account following accusations over fake dollars post.

The G-Unit rapper who is currently embroiled in court over his bankruptcy declaration made this known in a series of posts earlier today.

It is believed that the U.S. court judge in charge of his case thinks he is dishonest with his claim of being bankrupt when his IG page is filled with photos of himself surrounded by cash.

However, 50’s lawyer claimed that the cash displayed were simply Prop Money – fake cash used mostly in music videos and films, that he was simply showing off as part of social media marketing.

This prompted the U.S. Secret Service to contact the rapper questioning if the prop money was counterfeit, and this must have totally got 50 upset as he released several photos, including the big announcement that he will no longer be in charge of his Instagram account.

According to Billboard reports, there are rules about showing off fake money to avoid counterfeit issues and 50 could be in trouble with the U.S. Secret Service if he did not follow the rules.

The law does not specify if it is acceptable to share fake money on social media, but it states clearly that the size of the money and the colour must be different from real cash.

A WOMAN RAPED HER FEMALE FRIEND

A 26-year-old woman, Queeny Akuffo, has been charged to court for raping another woman in Ghana. Her 22-year-old victim told the court on Wednesday that she carried out chores for the accused and on the day that the incident occurred, she was invited by the accused to cook for her.

She is said to have sedated Amoakwa, who is her neighbour and raped her with an artificial penis,
otherwise called a dildo at Ablekuma in the Ga West District of Greater Accra.

Queeny has pleaded not guilty to a charge of rape and has been granted bail by the court.

On January 25, 2016, the victim was on her way to buy food for her son when she received an invitation to visit Queeny. According to the prosecution, the victim quickly went home to attend to her son before she honoured the invitation.

When she entered Queeny’s house, she was ushered into the sitting room, where Queeny offered her a glass of Vodka, but she declined. However, Queeny convinced her to take it with the explanation that it was non-alcoholic.

After she had taken the drink, the victim realized she was becoming tipsy but Queeny assured her it was normal.

“Later, Queeny sent her sister who lived with her to buy two bottles of beer which they consumed”, the prosecution said.

The victim passed out after taking the beer only for her to wake up the next day in her own house.
According to the prosecution, it was later that the victim realised that Queeny drugged and raped her with an artificial penis and recorded the act.

A 14-year-old boy, who lived in the neighbourhood and was visiting Queeny’s sister, had rushed to the victim’s house after he had been driven out by Queeny, to inform the victim’s parents that their daughter had been drugged by Queeny.

The boy claimed he had seen Queeny and the victim drinking together and later saw Queeny dragging the victim, who was in a wobbly state, into her bedroom before he was driven away.

The parents of the victim went to Queeny’s house and found her taking a video coverage with her mobile phone, while inserting the dildo into the private parts of their daughter.

The parents, who found their daughter in an unconscious state, took her to the police station to file a complaint that their daughter had been poisoned.

At Queeny’s house, the police retrieved the empty bottles of beer and Vodka, the vibrator and also found the video on Queeny’s mobile phone.

At Wednesday’s hearing, counsel for the accused, Mr Andrews Kudzo Vortia, suggested that the victim was fully aware of what to expect when she heeded to the accused’s call, adding that “the victim had fore knowledge of what will transpire at the house and thus could not say that she was raped by the victim.’’

In response, the victim informed the court that she went to the house of the accused because she normally helped with her house chores for a fee and not “to engage in any sexual activity with her.’’

She added that she accepted the drink that was offered to her by the accused because “I did not think it will lead to something bad.”

The case was, however, adjourned to March 15, 2016, for the continuation of the cross-examination of other witnesses. The courtroom was full with sympathisers of both the accused and the alleged victim, Graphic.com.gh reports.

THE TRUTH BEHIND PRESIDENT BUHARI’S ESTATE IN OGUN STATE

Ogun state government constructs new estate in Abeokuta – The estate was named after Buhari during his visit to the state.

A huge estate under the construction named after President Muhammadu Buhari was recently found in Oke Mosan area of Ogun state.

Big letters in traditional Nigerian colours reads The ‘President Muhammadu Buhari Estate’.

Many Nigerians immediately criticized President Buhari for building the estate for himself.

While some said that it’s the Photoshop, others supposed that the president has already looted some money.

However, Naij investigation shows that, this estate was only named by Buhari to honour the leader of the nation.

Bayo Adeyemi, the special adviser on housing in the state, while being asked about the concept behind this project, said:

“That project was called Three Hills because of the hilly nature of the site. What the state is trying to do through the Ministry of Housing is to provide site & services. What we are doing there is what you can find anywhere in the world.

We are doing the infrastructures. We are providing the road, well laid out, drainages, street light and it is even going to be fenced. It is a very dear project to the heart of the state governor. He is the one driving that project, with the ministry.”

The project is targeted at the medium and the high class.

“It is going to be laid in zones. It is going to come in per square metres. So the number space you want to buy will determine the price,” he further explains.

“The Three Hills estate is our major project. It will have various sizes of plots, but all are within the range of 625sq metre and 1,800sq metres. We have 1,200sq metres. We have 1,500sq metres. Right now we are on Phase 1, which is 45 hectares and like you must have heard it is a complete estate whereby everything is provided, all the services, the road network, drainages, electricity, the waste treatments, power supply all will be provided. So, whoever goes in there will be comfortable.

“There are schools and business centres and a business district. Everything is provided. The construction work at the Three Hills will see some villagers displaced. The governor has been kind enough to provide a resettlement scheme for them already. It has been completed for them. It is just a matter of doing the needful.”

Buhari visited Ogun state for its 40th anniversary.

As part of the visit, the Three Hills Estate, has been named after the president.

However, the project meant for development of the housing in the state.

The other projects inaugurated by the leader of the nation so far in Abeokuta were the Itoku-Sapon flyover named Olufunmilayo Ransome-Kuti Flyover, Ultra-modern market at Sapon, the partially completed ultra-modern market, Omida.

BUKOLA SARAKI ACQUIRED NEW N330M EXOTIC CARS

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has taken delivery of new exotic cars purchased by the National Assembly management for his official use, brushing aside widespread criticisms against such lavish spending at a time of national economic crisis.

PREMIUM TIMES had exclusively reported that the Nigerian legislative body proposed to splash about N4.7 billion on at least 400 vehicles for leaders and members of the Senate and House of Representatives.

Among the proposed vehicles were 10 top-of-the-range cars for Mr. Saraki and his official convoy.

Our market survey showed the vehicles cost N329, 515,625 – more than the budgetary allocations for many government schools.

The report triggered a firestorm of reaction from Nigerians, including President Muhammadu Buhari and former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who urged the National Assembly to shelve the plan.

Mr. Buhari said he had rejected a proposal for new vehicles to be purchased for him as part of 2016 budget expenditure.

“I turned down a N400 million bill for cars for the presidency, because the vehicles I am using are good enough for the next 10 years,” the president said during his first media chat.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo also wrote members of the National Assembly asking them to jettison the plan to buy official vehicles.

“Whatever name it is disguised as, it is unnecessary and insensitive,” Mr. Obasanjo said. “A pool of a few cars for each Chamber will suffice for any Committee Chairman or members for any specific duty. The waste that has gone into cars, furniture, housing renovation in the past was mind-boggling and these were veritable sources of waste and corruption. That was why they were abolished. Bringing them back is inimical to the interest of Nigeria and Nigerians.”

But PREMIUM TIMES can report today that the National Assembly management ignored such concerns and, finalised procurement processes for the vehicles, and indeed took delivery of them for Mr. Saraki.

At least four of the 10 vehicles meant for Mr. Saraki have already been delivered by Lanre Shittu motors and the lawmaker has since put them to use.

Officials briefed about the matter told this newspaper that procurement process for the purchase of vehicles for the senate president was concluded since December.

However, like Mr. Saraki, the tenders board agreed the purchases be made in batches due to paucity of funds, our sources said.

Stressing what the Senate spokesperson, Aliyu Sabi, had earlier said, the source said procuring new vehicles for Mr. Saraki became a “matter of priority” because “the current cars are old and already developing faults”.

PREMIUM TIMES obtained tender documents for the 10 cars Mr. Saraki requested.

In the document, the National Assembly sought to purchase a 2016 model Mercedes Benz S550, four 2016 Toyota Prado jeeps, four 2016 Toyota Hilux SS (Auto) as well as a 2016 model Toyota Hiace Bus.

PREMIUM TIMES’ independent market evaluation showed the cars cost as follows: 1Nos.Mercedes Benz S550 (N49, 020,625); 4nos. Toyota Prado (N149, 650,000); 4nos Toyota Hilux SS (N102, 407,500) and 1Nos. Toyota Hiace Bus (N28, 437,500).

At N250 to the dollar, PREMIUM TIMES estimated the total cost of the purchase at N329, 515,625.

The four cars delivered yet, and confirmed by this paper, are three Toyota Prado SUVs and one Mercedes Benz S500.

[PREMIUM TIMES also confirmed that the procurement processes for the purchase of 120 Toyota Land Cruisers for the remaining 119 Senators were also concluded last December.

The tenders board also agreed to shelve the plan temporarily due to “paucity of funds.”

A source said senators however continued to pressure the Committee on Senate Services, which in turn put pressure on the National Assembly management to immediately conclude the procurement.

An estimated N4.7billion would have been spent by the time the acquisition of cars for Mr. Saraki and his 108 colleagues are completed.

A cocktail of illegalities

As we reported in an earlier story, the acquisition of cars for senators is a violation of the monetisation policy of the federal government.

Under the policy, no new vehicles should be purchased by any agency of government for use by officials.

Rather, public officers and political office holders are to receive 250 per cent of their annual basic salary as motor vehicle loan, which translates to N5.07 million for each senator.

Our sources at the National Assembly said the Senators got these loans before also proceeding to acquire these new Toyota Land Cruisers.

Also, the President of the Senate is said to have inherited the vehicles used by his predecessor, and Senate insiders say “he really does not need new cars as the one he uses are in top condition”.

But even if he needs new cars, the number being acquired for him is in excess of what the law provides.
According to the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission, the Senate President is entitled to a maximum of six vehicles, and not 10 as being bought for him.

He is entitled to two official cars, one pilot car, one protocol/press car, one ambulance and one security car.
Members of the two chambers of the national assembly are renown for their taste for exotic vehicles even after receiving monetary pay in lieu of official vehicles based on the provisions of the law.

The Senate had in the last legislative session bought Toyota Prado Jeeps for each Senator at the cost of over N1.3 billion, coming after both chambers had also bought Toyota Camry, for Senators and Peugeot vehicles for members of the House of Representatives.

The allegedly shady deal involved in the purchase of the Peugeot vehicles formed part of the charges against then Speaker Dimeji Bankole when he was taken to court after completing his term.

What N4.7billion can do If deployed towards enhancing healthcare delivery, N4.7 billion can be used in building 235 primary health care centres across Nigeria (enough for at least 6 health care centres in each state) at the cost of N20 million each.

The money, N4.7 billion, can also provide over 470,000 children with insecticide-treated mosquito nets at N10,000 each, saving them from the scourge of malaria which today kills more than 300,000 Nigerian children under the age of five annually and responsible for 11 per cent of maternal mortality cases yearly, according to experts at the Malaria Action Programme for States (MAPS).

Still on healthcare, over 10 million Nigerian kids could get complete malaria treatment dosage, at N460 if the N4.7 billion was directed to this life-saving purpose.

If that money is spent on boosting yield of farm produce, the amount can cover the cost of procurement of about 626,667 bags of fertilizers for Nigerian farmers at N7,500 each.

The money –N4.7 billion – can also offset a six-month wage bill of 40,000 minimum wage workers presently owed salary payment by some state governments seeking bailout from the federal government.

In order to provide conducive learning environment in schools, 470,000 sets of school furniture, comprising table and chair at N10,000 each, can be procured at the cost of N4.7 billion. Yet kids sit on bare floors to study in many schools across the country while the parliamentarians gets N4.7 billion to buy cars.

In the housing sector, at N7million per piece, the country can provide 671 additional cheap housing for citizens; and provide 51 thousand households with potable water at N92,000 per household connection.

A 22-yr-old Lady Sees Celebrity Faces On Her KNEES

A 22-year-old estate agent has claimed her knees are the spitting image of comedian James Corden and North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un.

Emily Daly, spotted the similarities after posing for a photograph before a night out in Newport, south Wales, on Saturday.

She posted the picture on Facebook, where she said dozens of her friends agreed with her before also pointing out the politician’s famous face

Miss Daly has now revealed she is proud of the discovery, which she says is like having a ‘piece’ of the 37-year-old star, who is currently in America filming The Late Late Show, with her at all times.

Speaking of the moment she realised Corden’s face was there, she said: ‘I was just getting ready to go on a night out with my friends in Newport and I asked my mum to take a quick photo of me.

‘I was wearing a short denim skirt and I looked at the photo and thought “wait a second, my left knee looks just like James Corden”.

‘You can clearly see the outline of his hair and the shape of his face. I’m not self-conscious about it – I feel really proud.

Her friends then pointed out her right knee’s resemblance to Jong-un, whose facial shape and haircut seem to be illustrated by the body part’s shadows and contours

Diamond Breaks Down In Tears After Daughter’s DNA Result

Diamond Platnumz was recently in paternity mess when the news broke that his babymama, Zari was once married to Ivan Ssemwanga whose cousin, Lawrence King demanded DNA test on his new born, Latifah.

Diamond Platnumz welcomed Latifah on August 6, 2015 with his baby mama, Zari Hassan. As a result of pressure from the fans and critics who felt the child was not Diamond’s, he had to bow to the pressures, he decided to go for the test which was conducted on both parents and the child.

In a recent interview with Citizen TV, the singer said he was tearfully happy when the DNA test proved he was the real father of the child.

“People talked a lot, created a lot of lies. I was not worried nonetheless. All through, I knew the baby is mine; though just to make myself happier and more peaceful, I decided to conduct a DNA test on Tifah. Tifah is my daughter, completely! I am extremely overjoyed by the results (DNA). That’s why I am now freer, happier and having a good time. When you happen to visit my office, you will notice I have hung framed photos of Tifah everywhere. I am not worried at all. I can now courageously face my critics.”

OCHOLI’S DEATH: FRSC MAKES SHOCKING DISCOVERY

FRSC attributes cause of accident that killed Ocholi to over speeding – Says Ocholi’s driver had no license. The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has attributed the accident that claimed the life of the minister of state for Labour and Productivity, Barrister James Ocholi to over speeding, Vanguard reports.

Disclosing this today March 9, in Abuja, the corps marshal of the FRSC, Boboye Oyeyemi told the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at the meeting of the body at the presidential villa that Ocholi’s driver had no drivers license as his name was not found on the data base of FRSC.

James Ocholi, his son and wife were killed on Sunday, March 6, 57 kilometers away from Kaduna. FRSC said a rear tyre of the Jeep they were driving in bust, skidded off, and somersaulted several times into the bush.

Ocholi was a key member of the FEC council before his death.

During the meeting today, President Buhari signed the condolence register and a minute’s silence was held in memory of the late SAN.

IF YOU NOTICE ANY OF THESE SIGNS, THEN YOU HAVE CANCER

The deadly disease has continued to take lives because many people do not know important facts and signs indicating that they have cancer.

Millions of people are living with Cancer because if detected early, the survival rate can be very high.

Cancer is one of the biggest killers in the world and over 2.5 million people are currently living with some form of the disease.

But as new treatments are developed and campaigns raise awareness of symptoms, the deaths caused by cancer have greatly reduced.

According to BBC News, there has been a 10 per cent decrease in death rates in the past decade alone.

And while cancers can be caused by genetics and environmental factors that are out of our control, 30 per cent of cancers worldwide could be prevented by leading a healthy lifestyle and being immunized against viruses such as HPV and HBV, according to the World Health Organisation.

Below are the signs and symptoms of the most common types of cancer:

1) Lung cancer

One of the most serious forms of the disease, around 44,500 people are diagnosed with lung cancer each year. The chance of survival is 5 per cent, and around 35,000 people will die of the disease each year. However, 89 per cent of cases are preventable.

There are two forms of primary lung cancer: the term used to describe the disease when it has not spread to other parts of the body.

More than 80 per cent of cases are non-small-cell lung cancer, which fall into the categories of squamous cell carcinoma, adenocarcinoma or large-cell carcinoma. Each of these forms attack different areas of the lung.

Small-cell lung, or oat-cell, cancer is rarer, but is more aggressive than non-small-cell. The vast majority of patients with oat-cell cancer are smokers, according to Cancer Research UK.

Symptoms:

Feeling breathless and having a persistent cough, as well as an aching or feeling pain when breathing or coughing are all symptoms of lung cancer. Coughing up blood or rust-coloured spit or phlegm, as well as repeatedly having infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia are signs, too.

Sudden and unexplained tiredness and weight loss can also be caused by the disease.

2) Bowel:

Also known as colon or rectal cancer, bowel cancer affects around one in 20 people in the UK, with around 41,000 people diagnosed with it each year. Over 16,000 of those patients will die of the disease. It has a survival rate of 57 per cent, and can be prevented in 54 per cent of cases.

It is most common in the over 60s; those with a diet low in fibre and high in red and processed meat; the overweight; and those who lead a sedentary lifestyle. Drinking and smoking can also heighten the risk, as well as a family history of the condition.

Symptoms:

Bowel cancer can be easily mistaken for other illnesses because the signs are common in many conditions.

Blood in your stools and pain in the abdomen can be caused by bowel cancer. Changes in bowel movements – such as constipation or diarrhea – that last for more than a few days are also linked to the disease.

But these are also common in people with haemorrhoids or those whose eating habits have changed, according to the NHS. In the latest stages, weight loss, pain when eating and bloating become evident.

3) Breast

Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer but lung cancer is the deadliest according to Cancer Research UK. The majority of people who get breast cancer are women over the age of 65, however younger women and men can also develop the disease.

Each year, over 53,000 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed, but it has a survival rate of 78 per cent, meaning it causes over 11,000 deaths annually. It can be prevented in 27 per cent of cases.

Symptoms:

Many people know that breast cancer is signaled by unusual lumps and thickening in the breast, but campaigners have urged that are other warnings signs that are unknown.

The charity Breast Cancer Care is among organisations to urge the public to be wary of all the symptoms of the disease. A change in the size, shape or skin on the breast; swelling in the armpit; and constant pain in the area can signal breast cancer. However, the nipples can also be affected. Redness, a rash or discharge coming from the nipple are all signs of the disease.

While lumps in the breast generally aren’t cancerous, the NHS urges people to visit their GP if they notice anything unusual.

4) Prostate

This form of cancer only affects men, because it is found in the satsuma-sized prostate gland located between the penis and the bladder. Over 47,000 new cases of prostate cancer are diagnosed each year. But it has a high survival rate of 84 per cent. Almost 11,000 people die of the disease each year. There are no clear ways of preventing prostate cancer, according to Cancer Research UK.

Symptoms:

In the early stages, prostate cancer does not cause any symptoms for many years, meaning it is usually caught when it is developed.

The condition is usually picked up when the gland becomes so large that it affects the function of the urethra and makes passing urine more frequent, slower and weaker.

Blood in the urine and erectile dysfunction are also signs. If the cancer pushes against the spinal cord, weakness or numbness in the legs or feet and the loss of bladder and bowel control can also occur.

However, difficulty passing urine can also be a sign of a common condition called benign prostatic hyperplasia, where the inner part of the prostate continues to grow as men get older

Benefit Of DETOXIFICATION...

Detoxification is a key body function involving the elimination of metabolic waste and other toxins via the eliminatory organs- the skin and kidneys and especially the liver. As much of about 80% of all chemical processes that go on in your body involve detoxification activities and modern day living has led to an increased exposure to toxins.

As well as the toxic by-products of our own metabolism, we are faced with toxins in what we eat and drink, as well as from alcohol, cigarettes, medical drugs, cosmetics, household cleaning products, not to mention pollution and environmental poisons.

When our parents were growing up, they were not exposed to a lot of toxic threats that invade us today. Hence it was much more easier for them to live longer without some of the life threatening diseases that combats us today.

Accumulation of some of these toxic materials in our body have hitherto affected several natural body functions especially those that have a thing or two to do with our ability to reproduce.

A baby is 50% product of its father and mother. Hence optimizing the quality of eggs and sperm before conception is of paramount importance.

A lot of some of our lifestyles today contribute in no small measure to the accumulation of some of these toxic materials in our body thereby leading to varying degrees of sperm disorders in men and implantation failures in women.

Therefore, both partners should detox, follow a fertility diet, take preconception supplement, and avoid activities leading to the generation of several reproductive toxins within the body.

Getting pregnant and growing a new human being with your own reserves, requires a surplus of nutrients and energy. Therefore beyond just detoxifying, it is imperative for the woman to also ensure the intake of a lot of essential nutrients necessary for the growth and development of the baby.

Another major factor affecting both male and female when it comes to fertility issue is Overweight.

Overweight and obese men have worse sperm quality than men of healthy weight. Being overweight or obese can also cause hormonal changes that reduce fertility and make men less interested in sex. Men who are very overweight are also more likely to have problems getting an erection. Together, these factors reduce the chances of men who are overweight or obese fathering a child.

If you’re trying to get pregnant, or intend to start trying, know that being overweight – especially significantly so – can affect your chances of conceiving and having a healthy baby as a woman. Obesity can affect fertility by causing hormonal imbalances and problems with ovulation, particularly for obese women having their first baby.

- Women who are overweight or obese have less chance of getting pregnant overall. They are also more likely than women of healthy weight to take more than a year to get pregnant.

- The risk of pre-eclampsia doubles in overweight women and triples in obese women. Overweight women have twice the risk of gestational diabetes and obese women eight times the risk, compared with women of healthy weight.

- A woman who is obese is more than twice as likely to have a miscarriage as a woman of healthy weight. There is twice the risk that her baby will not survive.

- Infants born to obese women are more likely to be large for their age, need neonatal intensive care or have a congenital abnormality.

Lagos collapsed building death toll reaches 30; contractor arrested

The police in Lagos have arrested the contractor handling the collapsed five-storey building in Lekki area of the state.

The police spokesperson in Lagos, Oladapo Badmus, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Lagos.

Ms. Badmus gave his name as Odofin Taiwo, adding that he was currently under investigation.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) told NAN that the death toll at the collapsed building had risen to 30 as at 4 pm on Wednesday

The general manager of LASEMA, Michael Akindele, told NAN that as at 12.40 p.m. on the same day, 13 other people had been rescued.

Correspondents of NAN who were at the scene reported that the 28th

body was brought out from the rubble at about 2pm, while the 30th dead person was brought before 4pm.

“As we speak, we have been able to rescue 13 people alive, and unfortunately, 30 others have been brought out dead.

“The operation is still ongoing, and I want to commend all the security agencies that have ensured the protection of the rescue operatives.

NAN also reports that the Standard Organisation (SON) led by its director of Inspectorate and Complaint, Bede Obayi, inspected the collapsed building and others under construction in the area.

Mr. Obayi ordered for the collection of the different building materials used for the collapsed building, including iron rods, blocks, sand, granites and sea water for laboratory analysis.

“The first thing in a house is the block, from the ones we have examined here, it has failed the test.

“The construction of this building is not up to 50 meters from the sea, showing that this land was reclaimed from the sea.

“There are conditions for reclaiming a land from the sea and the kind of building materials to be used in such lands.

“We have to examine all the materials used for this building and see if they meet the condition,’’ he told NAN.

“You need to also see that the right professionals handled the building project. If you use the best materials without the right professionals handling the materials, things will still go wrong.

“You must be a registered professional engineer for you to handle this type of project.

“If you want to build, you must look for a professional. We are going to investigate all the structures and materials in this environment,” Mr. Obayi said.

Beautiful - A Poem, Especially, For You...

Beauty

Sometimes it takes a fine boy’s stare, other times an open admiration from a girl,
A 5k make-up item, a revealing dress in dollars, heels in pounds, hair from another continent, likes in zeros, whistles and party-invites to make you feel beautiful.
But beyond that, when the lights go dim, when the show is over, when everyone leaves and you are all that remains, Without the weave, without the body enhancers and the makeup, then you crack up over the genuine moments you have made;

The way you walk, the way you talk, the way you just cannot pronounce a word,
The way you smile, your silly face in a selfie.
Your crazy food combinations, your flaws and cake flops.

Your stretch marks that look like your favorite animal,
Your birthmark so unique you wish you could show it to the world.
The sit up and squat routines you indulged in, the break-up speech you had with chocolate and ice cream still in the freezer.
The mood swings, the cramps,
Delayed conception,
Labor and birth.

Your love for colors and screens,
For chords and strings, for stitches and threads,
For strokes and swirls, for words and paper.
For test-tubes and microscopes, for cells and tissues,
For cables and ports.

The stunt you pulled to meet the deadline at work,
The hours of hard work to make People’s life easier,
Your refusal to manipulate figures and compromise quality,
The overtime without pay, the sleepless nights.

The fight you started, the ones you ended.
The tears you couldn’t explain, the ones which wouldn’t drop.
The relationships you saved the ones that sailed.

The victory against drugs and alcohol,
The win over cancer and the unidentified illnesses.
You maintained your sanity, you fought depression,
You rose above stereotypes and prejudice.

You held on to faith when there was no reason to,
You raised hands in worship,
You interceded for folks far and near,
You bent your knees in prayers.

Whoever you are, whatever you do, the extra’s don’t define you.
Revel in your flaws and strength.
You are beautiful all by yourself, do not treat yourself any less.
Your main source of beauty comes from within;
knowing that you are strong and you are loved.
Beauty, truly is in the eye of the “holder”!

YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!!

D’banj, Oprah Winfrey, Yemi Alade, Others Join ONE Campaign’s Call For Global Gender Equality

In commemoration of this year’s International Women’s Day, influential figures across the world has urged world leaders to act on promises to end extreme poverty faster by investing in girls and women.

Top among the influential figures who have added their voices to the campaign are Oprah Winfrey, Muhammad Ali, D’Banj, Melinda Gates, Femi Kuti, Charlize Theron, Yemi Alade, Bono, and many others. Other numerous influential figures including Selmor Mtukudzi, Vanessa Mdee, Victoria Kimani, Amy Poehler, Danai Gurira, Angelique Kidjo, Shonda Rhimes, Jessie J, Colin Farrell and Robert Redford have also signed ONE’s open letter which shows the incredible strength of feeling across the global community for leaders to step up for girls and women everywhere.

New analysis in ONE’s 2016 Poverty is Sexist report ranks the toughest countries in which to be born a girl, with Republic of Niger topping the list, followed by Somalia and Mali. Compared to their brothers, girls here have less education, lack access to opportunities, such as opening a bank account, and are less likely to get paid work when they grow up. Sixteen of the 20 countries that top the list are found in Africa, making it imperative for African leaders to fast-track efforts in improving women’s development.

Pop star, D’banj said it will be very pleasant if more girls had the chance to grow up to be empowered women, where all women went to school and were not forced into early marriages. “Extreme poverty is choking the potential of generations of young women in the developing world. Poverty is sexist. It hits girls and women harder than it does boys and men, creating a real urgency that world leaders must address. Women need to be better empowered, especially in areas such as agriculture and healthcare, so that they can contribute their best to the development of Nigeria. Women need better access to land, inputs, better maternal healthcare, among others.  That’s why I’m raising my voice and asking others to do the same.”

Grammy Award-Winning Artist and Activist, Angelique Kidjo said “The future of Africa is in the hands of its young women. If they are educated, they will educate their communities. If they are healthy, they will ensure others grow up healthy. If they are empowered, they will change the world. We can break the cycle of poverty, but we have to invest in girls and women to do it.”

Popular singer, Yemi Alade also added her voice and gave reasons why she is supporting the campaign. “We live in a world where women and girls are most disadvantaged by extreme poverty – on a continent where women and girls are particularly marginalised – socially, economically and legally. Every day, in every corner of the world, they are stopped from reaching their full potential. That is why I was part of ONE’s Strong Girl campaign and that is why I continue to join other leaders to raise my voice today.”

Nachilala Nkombo, Acting Executive Director of ONE Africa said “ONE’s Poverty is Sexist report shows that the 20 toughest places to be born a girl are also among the poorest places on the planet. Until leaders tackle the injustices that pervade the lives of girls and women and invest in fighting poverty, half of the world’s resources will remain untapped and social and economic progress for everyone will be constrained”.

The ONE Campaign’s Poverty is Sexist report calls for policies that ensure legal equality for all and increased access to safe and reliable energy, which will particularly benefit girls and women. There must also be concerted efforts to connect everyone to the internet and further ensure that governments, businesses and civil society open up their own data so the public are able to see and account for progress towards achieving the Global Goals indicators.
