Femi Adebayo: Actor Turned SA Denies Quitting Acting

Yoruba actor Femi Adebayo who now acts as the Special Adviser to Governor AbdulFatah Ahmed of Kwara State has said his recent appointment would not make him abandon movie acting.

The son of the popular veteran actor, Adebayo Salami aka Oga Bello says he has no regrets for taking up the appointment. “I was called to serve and I would give it all I got. Serving as the special assistant to the governor of Kwara State is a huge distraction but I do not mind because the society has given me so much and it is time for me to give back. I cannot remember the last time I went to a movie location.”

In a chat with Saturday Beats, the actor shut down rumours that he was gradually quitting acting for politics, emphasising that his post is only an appointment and not an elective one.

“I am not a politician. It is an appointment and not an elective post. It is a call to serve and the governor believes that I am capable enough to handle the area of arts, culture and tourism of my state and that is why I was appointed, I am not a politician,” he said.

Known to be a ladies’ man, the actor modestly refused the title, claiming that he has mutual respect for all his fans both male and female. He also told Saturday Beats about his plans for marriage.

“I am not a ladies’ man. My female fans appreciate my work and I appreciate my fans as well.”

APC now has two factions – Deputy National Publicity Secretary

The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of APC, Timi Frank, on March 31st told journalists in Abuja, that their are now two factions of the party in existence.

“I spoke in Bayelsa about what is going on in our party but they did not take me seriously. Very soon, the crisis will happen at the national level too. If anyone tells you that there is no crisis in the national APC, it is a lie. The party is now divided into two. The issue of the Senate president is still there and the party is not talking. So, there is crisis in the party. We have so much divisions and they are keeping quiet. If care is not taking, we are soon going to lose our popularity as a party.”

But the National Secretary of the party has since dismissed Frank’s claims, asking people to ignore him that there is no factions in APC…

A Mumbai police officer said the 24-year-old was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her house in Mumbai’s Goregaon. Some ‘personal reasons’ are said to be behind the suicide.

Banerjee was rushed to the Kokilaben Ambani Hospital in Andheri but was declared dead upon arrival. Confirming the news, Mumbai police spokesperson Dhananjay Kulkarni said that the hospital has sent a report on the Jamshedpur-born actress’s death. Lepacious Bose Writes On Fear Of Relapsing While Losing Weight

Onetime plus-size comedienne, Lepacious Bose went through the struggle of weight loss and conquered. Since then, she has been championing the course of weight loss, educating and giving tips to ladies, who are passing through the nightmare of shading weight. The talented MC wrote on her Instagram page, from person experience, why people losing weight should not be afraid of eating the wrong food, at the wrong time sometimes, which can lead to binge.

Read on…

“You lose weight, maybe three or four pounds maybe much more. But you slip, have a bad day, or a “weak moment” and you eat something you shouldn’t have. And what do you tell yourself? ‘Now I’ve completely blown it!’ I might as well really binge!

Beware the trap of perfectionism – aim to eat sensibly and healthily most of the time not all the time. Don’t live under a self imposed dictatorship.

We all eat more than we should of the wrong kind of stuff now and then. Think of your weight as something that (once you’ve reached a healthy weight) can go up and down to some extent.

Have a ‘sliding scale’ in your mind of a couple of pounds either side your target weight. Everyone’s weight fluctuates a bit and you should prepare for this. No one can live for long under a self imposed too harsh dictatorship. The whole idea is to enjoy the journey because it’s the journey of a lifetime. Change what ‘treats’ mean to you.

Like I always say it’s a mind game: all our lives we have been brainwashed; from childhood it’s drummed into us that “treats” consist of fatty, sugary empty calorific stodge. So what happens next? We start eating healthily and suddenly we have no treats. We feel deprived.

Of course a treat is whatever you decide it is. Is it really a treat to clog arteries, add unsightly fat, feel bad about yourself, risk diabetes and heart disease? Then out of guilt go on a binge?

Write down five treats that don’t involve enhancing fat or sugar. Whether the treat is calling a friend, going for a walk, or even having a cup of special tea or coffee, we can all reward and comfort ourselves.

It’s how we do it that counts. Weight loss is not a cure-all. Don’t expect weight loss to cure all of life’s problems. Sure you’ll be healthier, fitter and so on, and that will have positive and maybe unexpected positive ripple effects but, as a slimmer person, you’ll still have a bad day in the office, moments of self doubt, times when you feel undervalued.

Believe it or not, many people feel let down when they become slimmer and then find that being slim doesn’t solve all their problems in one go (i discovered that the hard way and it was a painful reality) to be continued,” she instructed.

The Most Important “Change” Right Now Is Changing President Buhari – Etcetera

In this piece “Time to change the change”, the controversial columnist Etcetera justifies the actions of many youths and talented patriots consistently making exit from the country due to poor economy condition of Nigeria. He advocated President Buhari exit as the veritable way to really get the change he promised, saying most of his campaign promises have been jettisoned.

Read the article below…

Imagine having a job of N5m every month as salary. It sounds unheard of in Nigeria, but it can be heard in the United States. In fact, my friend Henry just jumped ship and landed a sweet job in South Africa.

Another buddy of mine recently took the plunge and decided he’s had enough, too – and relocated to the sandy enclave of Dubai. He sends me emails often about enjoying a quality lifestyle which is beyond his wildest imagination.

They’re not alone, though. This year,  a large number of Nigerians are set to not only escape Nigeria, but also to renounce their citizenship.

A friend of mine, Victor, lives in Sweden and says he always feels like living in a Utopian society. It’s INCREDIBLE! he screams on the phone each time we talk. He tells me of all the statistics of the Nordic countries. The way he talks is like describing only the candle on a chocolate cake. Wait until you taste it. Living in Nigeria is like eating ‘kpako’ biscuit and saying “that is good enough” when the cake is just across the table to dig in.

Why are they struggling to leave? Did you just ask that question?

For the first time in many years, we are recording a huge number of skilled and educated young and older Nigerians and industries heading for the exits.

Hint: It has nothing to do with being unpatriotic.

You see, it’s not the sudden heat all over the country that is driving people away… it’s the idea of being tied to what Nigeria has become.

Growing up, I was part of a patriotic family. I worshipped Nigeria almost to the point of idolatry. I was happy when the soldiers came back from Liberia. My catechism teacher lost her son in the war, and we did our best to console her.

Now I wonder… are we ever going to be that nation of plenty again, or have we already taken our “first step into a thousand years of darkness with the second coming of our lord and saviour, Buhari?

With the current hardship in the country, it is already looking like Goodluck Jonathan was elected President in a distant era, many years ago. Nigeria has changed so much since then.

It is also looking like whatever change the second coming of Buhari could have brought about will forever remain a mystery.

Isn’t it time for us to seriously start thinking of changing the change?

The most important “change” we should consider right now is changing President Buhari.

We all can perhaps recall vividly one of the promises of the President, “I will pay all Nigerian jobless youth N5,000 every month.” But denouncing the promise now with a first-rate accent now seems stupid and uncalculated. It was a beautiful song to all Nigerian youths amidst the gargantuan level of hardship in the country. It was lauded as “one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at the sunset.”

We need to find someone as soon as possible with the intelligence to save Nigeria from impending disaster. We need to take a stand now. We cannot continue to give the country away to misfit politicians. We need a leader who will rally us to once again embrace the unique Nigerian values of honesty, hard work, and the love of God, which led to our success in the 70s.

I don’t know if I should advise you to start running to the border or stay and fight, because I still feel there is some hope left to turn Nigeria back and restore what has been taken from us by those misfits in Abuja. It is going to take men and women of courage to speak up against this destructive force that is ripping the heart out of our country. I must sincerely admit a fondness for a previous time when “change” hadn’t yet come to Nigeria.

I Might Not Be Manchester United Manager Next Season – Van Gaal

Louis van Gaal has admitted he might not be manager of Manchester United next season. The Dutchman has come under severe pressure this term, with the Red Devils unlikely to improve on last season’s fourth-place finish. United could even finish outside the Champions League places altogether – it is currently sixth with eight matches remaining – and Van Gaal has conceded for the first time, he could pay the price with his job.

“I think the board has to evaluate after the results of this year, what they have to do,” he said. “I cannot predict that when I do not know the facts. First you have to see the facts, I have always said that.

“The results and the titles and Champions League positions you can only say at the end.

“I am a rational person. I know a Manchester United manager has to win something, but I am still working on that.”

Van Gaal has been criticized for failing to get the best out of many of the players at his disposal, with former winger Angel Di Maria recently claiming that he struggled at United because he was played out of position. But Van Gaal has hit back at the Argentina international, insisting he must take some of the blame for an underwhelming single season at Old Trafford in 2014/15.

“I have never seen a player who doesn’t look at himself [like him],” Van Gaal said. “He looks at the way he performed here and [claims] it is always the fault of the manager.

“So he is one of the players who has no self-criticism. Unfortunately it is my life as a manager. It is always like that.” United hosts Everton on Sunday as it continues its challenge for the Champions League places, with fourth-placed Manchester City in action against Bournemouth on Saturday.

President Buhari Is Not Fighting Corruption – Aribisala

Scholars and legal experts yesterday in Lagos disagreed over the war against corruption by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The roundtable which was organised by the Department of Jurispudence and International Law tagged “Winning the War Against Corruption” had in attendance keynote speakers which includes; Prof Itse Sagay, Mr Femi Aribisala, Mr Femi Falana who was represented by Wahab Shittu and Dr Oby Ezekwesili.

Speaking at the event, Mr Femi Aribisala described the current fight against corruption by the Buhari administration as selective and only targeting members of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP).

His words, “Before the 2015 elections, we do not have any party presenting us with an anti-corruption mandate. The All Progressives Congress, APC, can be called a makeover of the PDP and since they moved over, they are no more corrupt because they are now in APC. So as far as I am concerned, there was no mandate to fight corruption.

“If President Buhari really meant to fight corruption, he will not form an alliance with the people who he despised before. So today, I don’t know who is fighting the corruption.

“We have to make up our minds if we really want to deal with the question of corruption. If we want to deal with the question of corruption, Nigerians themselves must insist on it and we have to deal with it at the institutional level. The institutional fight against corruption that has taken place to the extent that it has, took place under PDP. The institutional structures, even the ones that the present government is relying on are PDP structures”.

Aribisala further stressed that the budget padding by some government institutions under the watch of the President is part of the corruption.

“If we have this issue of budget padding and after revealing it, you then passed the budget and Nigerians do not know what is in the new budget, you cannot talk of fighting corruption because the budget controversy lacks transparency.”

Reacting to Aribisala’s comment, Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Anti-corruption, Prof Itse Sagay, in his own comments however said the roundtable should not be turned to a PDP campaign ground.

Sagay who was visible angered by Aribisala’s comment said; “How can someone come here and say there is no fight against corruption and everybody will be clapping? The APC had a manifesto and it was clearly written how APC will fight corruption. So people here should not show ignorance”

Sagay went further to caution Aribisala on making statements devoid of facts.
“You don’t take corruption war to a meaningless point. This is a serious discussion. So if Aribisala is anti-government, he should campaign for his party, the PDP to come back in 2019.”

He stressed further, “ICPC and EFCC were created by ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo and they are doing well, so we don’t need to create new institutions. You do not win a war by just creating multiplicity of institutions everywhere, that’s irresponsible”.

In his submission, Mr Femi Falana (SAN), said there is need to create special courts to handle corruption cases.
According to him, creation of special courts for corruption cases will make the anti-corruption war more efficient.

Also speaking, a former World Bank Vice President, Dr Oby Ezekwesili said there is no comedy going on rather the youths should rise up to fight against corruption.
According to her, corruption is demonstrated at various levels of government and all works of life.
“For example, everybody was applauding Aribisala after he spoke, the reason why you clapped was because some of you are in your own level of corruption.

“Many of you students whose exams are around the corner are preparing for malpractices. When we talk about the need to wage war on corruption, many people are disconnected completely from what we are talking about” she stated.

“You need to be driven by the evidence of the damage and the destruction that corruption is doing to you at the unit level. If you think you are doing well now, you will do exceedingly better if corruption is effectively tackled in this society,” she said.

Nigeria will soon be faced with a Disaster worse than Boko Haram – Governor Shettima

Borno Stata Governor, Kashim Shettima has warned the Federal Government and Nigerians alike of impending doom. Stating clearly that something far worse that Boko Haram insurgents is coming the nation’s way.

The Governor who also doubles as the Chairman of the Northern Nigeria Governors’ Forum handed the warning to the country during his a courtesy visit by a team from the United Nations led by the resident coordinator, Ms. Fatma Samoura.

The Governor said; Boko Haram may be an appetizer for worse things to come unless we put our thinking caps on”.

He added that; “The signals are there all over, the North is going to be inhabited by over 70 percent of Nigeria in 2050 when the nation’s population is expected to be the third largest in the world with over 400 million people.

“There has to be concerted effort from the rest of the world to handle the disaster waiting to happen.”

Girl R*ped By Her Aunty’s Son And A Church Member Within A Week of Living in Lagos

For many young girls, coming to live in Lagos from the villages is a turning point they look forward to with excitement. It was the same for 12-year-old Rachael (real name withheld), who left her native Akwa Ibom State in company with her aunty, Joy Isong.

But within days of settling in Lagos, the girl had been traumatised to the point of regretting the day she made the decision to leave her widow mother, to follow her aunty.

Following her ordeal, she cried out: “I loved to come to Lagos but I did not want to leave my mother, but my aunty said if I followed her to Lagos, I would be happy. But now, I am so sad I did not know this is the kind of thing I will come and go through here.”

Within days of her Lagos surjourn, Rachael, who was enroled in class five in a primary school in Mafoluku, Oshodi, Lagos, had been r*ped two different times in her aunty’s home.
Rachael told Punch that she was sleeping in her aunty’s house one evening after the woman had gone to the market. “I just woke up and noticed that a man was lying on top of me. I tried to push him away. I knew him. I had seen him in my aunty’s house a few times,” she said.

The man is Christian Nse, a father of five, who attends the same church as Rachael’s aunty.

“He is also my aunty’s customer. I tried to push him away from me. But he covered my mouth. Music was playing inside our house then. He had increased the volume and I did not know. He told me not to shout and said he would buy me expensive clothes. I told him I did not want any clothes, but he still r*ped me as he covered my mouth. When he finished, he told me to go to the bathroom and clean up the blood. Then he opened the door and left,” Rachael said.

The girl sobbed till her aunty came back from the market.

“When my aunty came back, I told her what happened and she saw that I was still bleeding. She told me to go and clean up the blood. She then went out to see the man who r*ped me (Nse). She asked the man what happened and they went to see their pastor together,” she said.

It was learnt that when they got to the pastor, Nse admitted that he indeed r*ped the girl and rather than report the matter to appropriate authorities, the pastor, Mr. Ezekiel Okon, asked Mr Nse to kneel as he prayed fervently for him, asking God to deliver him from the spirit of r*pe.

When Punch got wind of the incident and visited Rachael’s aunty in a restaurant she operates in Mafoluku, the pastor was there with her.

Pastor Okon and the aunty appealed to let the matter go as the girl was simply fondled but not r*ped.

“Please sir, the man who touched her Brea5t is no longer in Lagos,” the woman said.

“I was notified of the issue and I even scolded the man when they brought him to me. He has promised never to do such a thing again. Please, let us just forget it,” the pastor added.

On the surface, everything was alright. Rachael was in the restaurant that day. She kept quiet as her aunty pretended that nothing bad had happened to her.

Nobody said anything about the fact that few days after Mr Nse r*ped her, one of Mrs Isong’s sons also r*ped her, an information Punch later got from the girl when the case was later reported to the police by officials of the Jeshabel Touch-A-Heart Foundation.

Rachael explained that after she was r*ped by Mr Nse, her aunty started taunting and tormenting her with hurtful words.

She said, “She [her aunty] started laughing at me. She was making jest of me and saying that I would become pregnant for the man. She said when I have the man’s child, I would become his wife. I always cried whenever she said that.

“One man on our street later heard about the matter and went to tell the wife of the man (Mr Nse) what had happened. The man’s wife then came to my aunty’s house and took me to a hospital. The doctor in the hospital said that I still had some blood inside me that needed to be washed out. After he washed it out, he gave me injection and I was told to go home.”

Punch spoke with Mrs. Nse, who explained that she believed that her husband indeed r*ped the girl.

“I was angry with him. When I confronted him, he said he did not know what to say. We have been married for more than 20 years. I did not even speak with him for some weeks after I heard he r*ped the girl,” she said.

But that was not the end of Rachael’s ordeal. Few days later, when her aunty was away from the house, the woman’s 18-year-old son, Daniel, who is Rachael’s cousin, grabbed her again and r*ped her.

“I told him that I would tell his mummy when she came back. I told him that I did not believe that he was an animal because I had always seen him like my own brother. But he just laughed after he had r*ped me. When my aunty came and I told her, she shouted at me to leave her presence. She said she did not like looking at my face because I am very ugly. She told me to get out.”

With nowhere to turn to, Rachael decided to tell her class teacher all she had been going through at home.

Luckily for Rachael, the Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Education Authority had held an awareness lecture on r*pe and s*xual assault, telling teachers and pupils what to do when they go through such.

The teacher informed the authorities, which in turn got the Jeshabel Foundation involved in the case.

Head of the guidance and counselling of the education authority, who is also in charge of s*xual harassment and molestation issues within primary schools in Oshodi-Isolo, Mrs. Irene Enogwe, said her office had previously taught students to always speak out when they are r*ped.

“We always tell them that it is to their benefit to tell their parents when someone molests them. If their parents do not listen to them, they should be able to walk up to their teachers to narrate what happened. We are happy that the girl in this case immediately followed that instruction,” Enogwe said.

By Thursday, Founder and coordinator of the Jeshabel Touch-A-Heart Foundation, Mrs. Favour Benson, had reported the case at the Makinde Police Division.

That same day, the police rounded up all the parties concerned – Mr Nse, Rachael’s aunty, her son, the pastor, Nse’s wife – with plans to prosecute everyone who had contributed to the girl’s woes.

Nigeria Police Recruitment: Two Websites Crash As Thousands Of Applicants Register

The fact that many Nigerian youths are jobless is a reality! Attempts by thousands of candidates to apply for enlistment into the Nigeria Police Force were frustrated on Friday as the two police portals for the recruitment crashed and were inaccessible for most part of the day.

The Police Service Commission had directed interested candidates to apply through its website, or that of the Nigeria Police Force, but the two websites crashed due to huge traffic.

Many youths could not apply online at different cyber cafés and had to go back home in frustration.

Several attempts to access the websites between 2pm and 6pm were abortive as the PSC website simply said, “This Account has been suspended. Contact your hosting provider for more information.”

The police website on the other hand, was also inaccessible for over 10 hours in the course of the day.

But according to Punch, police sources said about 8,000 candidates had been able to register as of 2pm.

“Candidates started registering online from 4am on Friday when the portals opened for registration; as of 2pm, over 8,000 candidates had registered online. The traffic was huge and this explains why many applicants could not access the websites because the servers were down,” a source explained.

The operator of Smart and Bright cafe, Kubwa, who gave his name as Kingsley, said he had to turn back many candidates because the recruitment portals were not accessible, adding that only few candidates were able to register.

Victor Igaman of Igaman Cafe, also stated that he turned back candidates on account of the jammed police servers. At Christ link cafe, about seven applicants had successfully applied while the eight person was observed filling in his bio-data.

A candidate, who gave her name as Margaret, said she was able to apply after spending 20 minutes, adding that the huge traffic on the websites was to blame for the hiccups experienced by candidates.

The Head of Press and Public Relations in PSC, Ikechukwu Ani, said the commission’s technical team was working on the servers to address the hitches.

“I have notified our technical team and they are working on the servers, all the hiccups would be addressed and candidates would find it easier to file their applications. I believe the issues we are experiencing were caused by the traffic from the huge number of applicants,” he explained.

The frustration of the applicants was vented on social media as some applicants berated poor infrastructural preparedness of authorities for the barrage of applications.

An applicant, Samogconsu, on an online forum, questioned the size of the bandwidth being used by the police for the application.

He said, “I just decided to visit the recruitment website this morning and discovered that the hosting company has suspended the website meant for the recruitment exercise.

“Could it be the police owed the hosting company or they have limited bandwidth that caused the shutdown? I think they need to give explanations to Nigerians. It is saying ‘This account has been suspended, contact your hosting provider for more information’.”

Another applicant, identified as Adet5 said, “Concerning the ongoing police recruitment exercise, I observed that the website is malfunctioning. It is submitting application automatically even without the completion of filling of the forms and all efforts to reach its help desk has been abortive. Please is there anything I can do?”

Fayose Slams President Buhari, Says Your Trip To US Is The Joke Of The Year

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has called on well-meaning Nigerians to prevail on President Muhammadu Buhari to stop what he described as his needless foreign trips.
Fayose described Buhari’s trip to the United States of America on Wednesday for the 4th Nuclear Security Summit, where he said Nigerians were suffering at home, as “joke of the year”.

The governor said: “It remains a mystery what President Buhari that met power generation at 6,000MW and could not manage it such that power generation crumbled to 0MW yesterday, will contribute to the Nuclear Energy Summit in America.”

Speaking through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose said “It is shameful that while President Buhari was far away in the United States of America, attending a summit that does not have any bearing on Nigeria and its people, an unprecedented happened – power generation stopped completely for over three hours!”

He said the sufferings of Nigerians deserved the attention of the President instead of junketing around the world, wasting the country’s scarce foreign exchange.

Fayose alleged that over $50 million must have been spent on the President’s frequent foreign trips, adding that Nigerians should ask Buhari whether his trip to the United States of America to attend the Nuclear Energy Summit will bring the lingering fuel scarcity being experienced in the country to an end.

He said: “Nigerians are suffering. Petrol has become so scarce that our people now sleep in petrol stations to buy fuel at N200 per litre while the president who should alleviate their sufferings is in the USA, attending a summit that he won’t even understand whatever that is discussed there.

“This is not acceptable. Mr President should stay at home and see to it that at least, power generation returns to 6,000MW that he met it if he cannot add to it.

“Mr President should stay at home and bring this fuel scarcity that has paralysed almost all activities in the country to an end.

“Nigerians are saying their president should stay at home and bring to an end the killings, raping of women and destruction of farmlands by Fulani herdsmen.

“Most importantly, the President should listen more to those of us who criticise him instead of those hailing every of his wrong steps either because of what they intend to gain or for fear of persecution.”

Police Arrest Killer Of 9-Year-Old Girl 6 Years After She Was Killed…

Six years after 9-year-old Aminat Lateef, was gruesomely murdered by a gang of hoodlums, at Tiaminu Street, off Ereko, in Idi-Oro area of Mushin, Lagos State, succour seems to have come the way of the family, as operatives at the D9 Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, during the week, apprehended a leader of the gang, Wasiu Akinade, a.k.a. Oloriesho.

The suspect was arrested last Tuesday, when the SCID operatives trailed him to his hideout at Tollgate area of Mushin.  It was gathered that a shootout ensued between the operatives and some hoodlums who attempted to prevent the police from arresting the suspect.
Police sources disclosed that Oloriesho has been on the police wanted list for a long time following several gang-related killings and other violent crimes around Mushin and its environ for a long time. A source at the SCID, who spoke with Saturday Vanguard on the condition of anonymity, stated that since 2009, Oloriesho has it signatures in almost all gang-related killings within Mushin, Fadeyi, Shomolu, Bariga and Ilupeju areas of Lagos State.

The source explained that Oloriesho and his gang were recruited in 2009 by a faction of National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW,  who were locked in a battle of supremacy to wage a bloody war against their opponents. The police source highlighted that Oloriesho and his gang carried out several killings around Tollgate, Idi-Oro, New Balogun, Ogunjobi and Railway areas of Mushin before his arrest. The source added that five members of his gang were arrested by the SCID operatives in January 2016 and an AK47 belonging to the police which was snatched from a policeman murdered at Daleko area of Isolo, Lagos, was recovered from the suspects and the suspects provided intelligence that aided the police in apprehending Oloriesho.

According to the source, Oloriesho and his gang were alleged to have taken part in the killing of the nephew of former Inspector General of Police, Sunday Ehindero, Niyi, in 2012.

It was alleged that Oloriesho and his boys attacked some residents of Bada Street, who weren’t loyal to them and they had a clash with some soldiers who were responding to a distress call within the area. Oloriesho has been on our file for a long time and we have been working very hard to arrest him but we made our first breakthrough last January when we apprehended five members of his gang and they gave us information on how to apprehend him and since we made that arrest, Mushin has been relatively peaceful."

There have been no news of violent clashes or killings within that area and to make sure we achieve a lasting result, we went all out for Oloriesho because he is the leader of the gang. Before his arrest, we had got several information about him, detailing how he led his gang to carry out several killings against persons that are believed to be his opponents. They have also killed innocent people in the process.

“One of such killings was in 2011, a few months after they killed 9-year-old Aminat. They also attacked and killed one Akeem Adeleye, alias Chiroke. He was attacked close to his house in Idi-Oro and killed. One year after, while his friends were observing his remembrance, Oloriesho and his boys stormed the place, opened fire into the crowd and had a shootout with some soldiers who were around that area. At the end, they killed one Niyi Ehidero, who is a nephew to the former IGP."

In 2013, we had report that he killed one Morufu Bakare at Olosha Bus stop in Mushin. He was reported to have shot Bakare on the face. “In 2014, we received reports that he carried out two killings; one in January, while the other in December. In January 2014, we learnt that he led his boys and they shot one Segun Oladunjoye to death around Toll gate area Mushin. We were informed that Segun was formerly part of his gang and he switched camp after he was released from prison. We were told that Oloriesho killed him because he felt Segun betrayed him.
In December 2014, he was also alleged to have killed one Lekan Akinshola at Oyegbola Street, Ilupeju, Lagos. Based on these reports, we went after him and members of his gang and the result is what you are seeing now.”

Jubilation in Mushin over arrest  Last Wednesday when Crime Guard visited Mushin following news of Oloriesho’s arrest, residents were seen in different areas celebrating his arrest. A resident, James Balogun, told Crime Guard that with Oloriesho’s arrest, Mushin will be peaceful. He said Oloriesho had been enjoying protection from some influential politicians for a long time.

“He also worked for politicians and they had been the ones shading him from arrest”, Balogun Stated. “Last January, he was arrested by the police and taken to the Area D Command, Musihn, but less than four hours after his arrest, an influential politician came and bailed him. We learnt that the police at the area command took N500,000 bribe and they released him, but we are grateful that policemen from the SCID has moved in and arrested him.”

When Crime Guard visited Tiaminu Street, where Aminat was killed, her father, Saheed Lateef, who was filled with joy when he spoke with Crime Guard, said he had waited for six years for justice, and was grateful to God that the police had gone after the killers of his daughter. “I have waited for six years for this day and I am grateful to God that I am alive to see my daughter’s killers pay for their crimes. I thought there was no law in this country because this people who killed my daughter were walking the streets of Mushin as free men and each time I saw them, I wept and begged God to give justice to my poor child whose life was cut short prematurely. I can’t fight them because they are usually armed.”

Narrating how his child was murdered, Saheed said,Aminat was a Primary 3 pupil of Ola Emma Nursery and Primary school, Mushin; she was shot dead at about 7.35 p.m on Tuesday, December 9, 2010, which was  the eve of her birthday. I had sent her to buy food when these hoodlums saw and sprayed bullets on her. I was told by people who witnessed it that Aminat on sighting the hoodlums, who were on a revenge mission, hid behind a car, but the car could not protect her and the hoodlums sprayed the car with bullets and killed her instantly.”

Saheed who described the late Aminat as his precious first daughter said: “She was very humble and respectful. All I am asking from the government is to allow justice to prevail in this matter. I want the killers of my precious daughter to be brought to book.”

Recruitment of 10,000 Policemen will address Unemployment – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari said the recruitment of 10,000 policemen would address the challenge of youth unemployment in the country.

The president made the disclosure at a ceremonial parade to mark the 2016 Police Week in Abuja on Friday.

Buhari, who was represented by the Minister of Interior, retired Lt.-Gen.Abdulrahman Dambazau said the initiative would also address the manpower gap in the police.

He advised the management of the police force to put national interest in mind in the recruitment in line with the reform agenda of the Ministry of Interior.

“In carrying out this exercise, I expect the Nigeria Police to put national interest in the foremost,” he said.

Buhari said that community policing had become more imperative considering the current security challenges in the country.

He said that it was in view of this that his administration had rested the internal security of the country on enhanced budget, addressing social factors among others.

The president said that government had funded the procurement of over 1,000 patrol vehicles and other logistics to strengthen operational capacity of the police.

He said that in order to address the challenge of highly organised crime, government had strengthened the technical intelligence capacity of the police.

“No nation thrives without security, and neither can a nation lay claim to security without an efficient policing service.

“This administration shall continue to support initiatives that will guarantee the reform and modernisation of the Nigeria Police.

“I must clearly recognise that the nation expects so much from the police,” he said.

He reassured Nigerians of government’s determination to bequeath a reformed, re-oriented, well trained, well equipped and highly motivated police.

Buhari said that the dream could only be attained with the support of the citizens.

Earlier, the Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase said that with the support of the citizens, the police was determined to fight criminals who continued to threaten the peace and security of the nation.

He commended officers, who in spite of the challenges had continued to display loyalty and zeal to confront internal insurgency.

“We recognise the sacrifice of officers and men who sweat it out under the scorching sun, the drizzling rains and the cold nights to stay alert in order to ensure the safety and security.

He said that the Police Week was aimed at restoring the lost glory of the Force.

“In essence, the Police Week is a celebration of our history as well as an opportunity for the Force to reconnect with the people for a more effective policing,” he said.

In attendance were representatives of the Chief of Defence Staff, service chiefs, diplomats, traditional rulers, among others. (NAN)

WOMAN AND HER BOYFRIEND TORTURE 4 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER TO DEATH FOR DRINKING BROTHER’S JUICE

A 30 year old Texas woman, Jeri Quezada has been arrested for beating her 4 year old daughter, Leiliana Wright, to death with a belt and bamboo stick after she drank her 18 month old brother’s juice. The little girl later died from the injuries she suffered on March 12.

Quezada said due to the bruises on her daughter’s face, she left the girl at Phifer’s house while she ran errands with her 18-month-old son because she couldn’t take her daughter out in public with facial bruising.

Police were called to the home on March 13 after Quezada called 911 and said she was performing CPR on her daughter.

When paramedics arrived on scene, they found the girl had facial bruising, and Quezada said her daughter fell in the shower after coming home from a friend’s house with bruises.

The girl was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead and her death was ruled a homicide three days later due to blunt force trauma to the head and abdomen.

Detectives said that Quezada changed her story multiple times during their investigation, according to WFAA.

Quezada told police that later that afternoon, that at about 3pm, her boyfriend Phifer had called her to bring Pedialyte for Leiliana, she said she went ti his house which was where Leiliana was and dropped of the Pedialyte. and then went home to take a nap.

Then at about 5:30 p.m Phifer called her to say Leiliana was making herself throw up, so he tied her up for about 10 minutes.

About 9:30 p.m. Quezada arrived to pick up her daughter and learned she was tied up in the closet. Quezada then “allowed him [Phifer] to give her a shot of heroin since the child couldn’t see her mother doing drugs,” police said.

Quezada told police when the closet door was opened she saw that her daughter was tied up with her wrists behind her back — and that she was restrained in such a way that prevented her from sitting down.

The child was eventually released from the closet. The child said she was hungry and her mother made her half of a peanut butter sandwich. When Leiliana had trouble swallowing the food, Quezada began slapping her on the chest and smacking her in the head while ordering her to swallow the food.

Quezada said Phifer then put on black gloves, forced the young girl’s mouth open and forcefully poured Pedialyte into her mouth. Quezada said her daughter then stood next to her, looked down and said nothing before saying she was going to throw up.

The girl ran for the bathroom, but didn’t make it. She threw up in the kitchen along the way. When she came out of the bathroom, Phifer grabbed her by the throat and lifted her off the ground with one hand and slammed her into her into a wall in the closet; police said this action left an indentation in the wall.

Quezada said Phifer screamed and cursed at the child and threw her into the closet before closing the door.

According to Quezada, her daughter was allowed out of the closet about 15 to 20 minutes Quezada asked her if she wanted to tske a shower, she said yes, and she was allowed to take a shower on her own. She said she left the bathroom to get her daughter some pajamas then heard Phifer in the bathroom saying, “Get you some of this” before hearing her daughter fall in the shower.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office said Leiliana suffered bruising ‘from head to toe’ and had whip marks on her back.

Quezada is being held on a charge of injury to a child with a bond set at $500,000. Police hasn’t arrested Phifer on any crimes yet...
