Don't Play Politics With The Dead - PDP Begs APC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers state has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state of playing politics with the dead.

Speaking to newsmen yesterday, December 1, Felix Obuah, the chairman of the state PDP described it as unfortunate, Vanguard reports.

Recall that prominent APC chieftains and supporters led by Dakuku Peterside, had a solemn march from the party’s secretariat to the Port Harcourt Polo club, old GRA, on Monday, November 30, in honour of over 98 supporters killed in election violence in the state during the 2015 general elections.

Godsgift Nwankwo, an APC chieftain from Omuma local government area lamented that some members of the party are still being attacked by political thugs allegedly working for the PDP.

However, Obuah said the PDP had no hand in the death of anyone in the state.

“We want to say that the PDP will not condescend so low as to play politics with the lives of Rivers people by celebrating falsehood and deceit. We shall strive to defend democracy, good governance and the sanctity of lives, no matter the situation,” he said.

He called on the APC to respect the dead and stop playing politics with those who died in the state.

Obuah also condemned calls by some speakers at the APC march on Monday for the declaration of a state of emergency in the state.

According to him, such a call was misplaced, consid­ering that Rivers state has been peaceful.

He also urged Dakuku Peterside, the governorship candidate of the APC to shun desperation and be orderly, calling on President Muhammadu Buhari, the National Assembly and the law enforcement agents to call him to order.

“We call on to call Dakuku, his Abuja based sponsor and the Rivers APC to order,” he said.

Obuah assured that the PDP government will continue to take steps to promote good governance in the state.

Two weeks back, a group, Rivers Progressives Front (RPF) had accused loyalists of Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, of being responsible for the violence and kidnappings in the state.

The group claimed that that the governor’s boys carrying out attacks were some of those he employed to perpetrate series of atrocities during the April 11 gubernatorial election in the state.
