The wife of the President, Hajiya Aisha Buhari, has made a passionate plea to the organized private sector and kind-spirited individuals to come to the aid of Internally Displaced Persons, IDP’s in Borno state and other states affected by the Boko Haram insurgency, to relocate home after spending over two years in IDPs camps.
The Boko Haram insurgency has displaced over two million Nigerians in the North-east with IDPs camps set up to cater for these huge number of Nigerians, whose source of livelihood and homes have been destroyed.
Speaking when she received a delegation of four women at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday, Mrs Buhari said “to a lot of them (IDPs), it’s like starting life all over again and the little assistance from good natured citizens will go a long way in helping them to settle down and start life afresh”.
The wife of the president further said she had held fruitful discussions with five companies, which resulted in eight truckloads of food items being made available so far to the IDPs camps.
According to Mrs Buhari, the intervention of the private sector was a way of discharging their corporate social responsibility to the society and a path to nation building.
The four women, which include the wife of the governor of Ogun State Mrs. Funso Amosun, Remi Abere, Uzo Nwani and Debo Laditan, spent ten days in climbing and descending Mountain Kilimanjaro as a way of raising funds for the IDPs and drawing attention to their plight.
The daring move to climb Africa’s highest peak by these women was initiated by Remi Abere, who said it was her way of giving back to humanity on her 50th birthday.
