MTN Consultant on Wednesday in Abuja warned subscribers not to pay any fee to anyone while registering their SIM cards.
Mr Adeyinka Adeniyi, the Trade Marketing Consultant, MTN in Abuja told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in a telephone interview that collection of any fee or fine during the process of registration was illegal.
He said that nobody should pay any money for registration “because there is nothing like registration fee’’.
He was reacting to complaints by some subscribers that they were asked to pay N100 at an MTN outlet in Phase 3, Kubwa, a satellite town in Abuja.
It would be recalled that MTN had been sending out text messages to subscribers to register their SIMs and compensation ranging from NI000 to N20, 000 are being sent to them.
However, long queues still persisted in most of the registration outlets visited by NAN as subscribers waited patiently to register their SIM cards.
At the Garki 11 outlet, subscribers were seen on long queues as they registered their SIM cards.
Some of the subscribers however told NAN that they were tired of the exercise because of the long wait on the queues.
Mrs Patience Okojie said that she woke up as early as 5.a.m. to come out for the registration but on getting to the place her number was 235.
She called on MTN to find a better and quicker way of carrying out the exercise to avoid stress and hardship.
At the Lugbe outlet, subscribers were also seen on long queue waiting patiently to register SIM cards.
