How The Female Bristow Pilot Saved 13 Lives By Ditching Helicopter in Atlantic Ocean

Tragedy was averted last Wednesday February 3 when a Bristow helicopter enroute Lagos from port Harcourt with 11 passengers including two crew members onboard  crashed into the Atlantic Ocean. Luckily, nobody died yet not many know the capable hand that was in charge of the helicopter.

Captain Abimbola Jayeola who is also Nigeria’s female helicopter pilot flew the 5B BJQ  Bristow helicopter that was headed to Lagos from Port Harcourt but ended up “ditching” into the Atlantic Ocean. “Ditching” is a controlled emergency measure to land an aircraft on water.

Captain Jayeola hails from Abeokuta in Ogun State. In 2008, she graduated from the Bristow Academy in Florida USA, where she “learned to believe in herself”.

It was revealed that were it not for the captain, all the lives aboard would have perished.

Jayeola currently works for Bristow Group and is based in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital. Before joining her present employers, she worked with Geointel and Associates.
